DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for directing traffic and helping children cross streets at an assigned post during hours when pupils are going to, and returning from, school. Incumbents are responsible for safely escorting children across streets or intersections. Work is generally performed independently with occasional direction from a superior.

Directs vehicular traffic; Assists children crossing streets; Instructs children concerning proper crossing places and precautions to be taken when crossing streets.
